The Canadian House of Commons, the lower legislative house in the Canadian bicameral Parliament, passed the privately introduced Bill C-389 giving Transgender Canadians equal protection from discrimination. This is the Trans-fantastical good news!
Ready for the bad news? Bill C-389 must now be introduced and voted upon in the “Über” conservative Canadian Senate. At this time, there is no sponsor in the Senate, and there is major opposition to the bill and Transgender rights.
Let's hope Bill C-389 does not suffer the same fate as its American counterpart, The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and die in the Canadian Senate.
