| Creating Change In Your Community |
There are many, many people including myself who could not attend The 23rd National Conference on LGBT Equality: Creating Change 2011 for many reasons. This is not to say you have to attend a conference to create change. You can create change for the Transgender, Bisexual, Lesbian, and Gay - TBLG communities in many simple ways and all within your abilities. - Engage friends in positive dialog about TBLG issues.
- Send an email to your Congressional representatives, your State representative, and / or your city council about your TBLG concerns.
- Join a TBLG support group. Share your experiences. Be a mentor. Each person's journey is unique but your experience might be the catalyst in helping another person who is struggling.
- Volunteer with a local TBLG organization. Utilize your talents. Everyone has some sort of talent.
- Donate to a TBLG organization in any amount you can afford. It might not be money. It could be your time or talents (see above).
- If you do not have any TBLG organizations in your area, Start one. You would be amazed how easy and inexpensive it is. If you need help, there are plenty of experienced organizers who would be willing to help you.
- Use your imagination and your vision. All change happens because someone is willing to think outside the box.
- Above all, use your passion! Nothing changes unless each person has the passion to create change. This happens at every level.
Conferences like Creating Change are designed to get the passion moving, to network and to learn new ideas. If you think about it, you can do this at home, online and in your community.
Yes, it takes a little more energy but it is a hell of a lot cheaper and you don't have to eat that icky banquet chicken either!
Oh! Please support The Task Force. They keep the T in TBLG.

Thank you to all of the activists who attended Creating Change. This year's conference had a great turnout, great workshops and some fantastic speakers — and Kate Clinton was a fabulously funny mistress of ceremonies! The conference may be over, but our work continues. Let's take the enthusiasm and momentum we're all feeling to create change back home in our local communities. If you were unable to attend, we're sorry we missed you! Plan to be with us at next year's Creating Change in Baltimore! You can still get inspired to create change in three easy steps:
Next: Take the pledge to create change at home. Make a promise to yourself to stay energized, speak out and get involved.
Then: Become a Change Agent! Change Agents are monthly givers who allow the Task Force to take action at a moment's notice in defense of equality. You can create radical change by becoming a Change Agent today.
Your passion and your activism are the fuel for the LGBT movement. Whether you were at Creating Change or not, thank you again for your dedication. Together, we can build our power and create the change all of us deserve.
 | Sincerely,

Rea Carey, Executive Director
