GENDER EXPRESSION MOVEMENT - GEM Advocate Participating In William & Mary Legal Skills Program
"The William & Mary Law School curriculum includes a mandatory two year program in which our students are members of simulated law firms. This is how we teach professional ethics, legal research and writing, interviewing, negotiation, trial and appellate practice, and much more. Legal Skills stresses the importance of people and tries very hard to teach our future lawyers the importance of properly assisting clients with the myriad of difficulties that people experience."

"During Legal Skills, our students represent a number of ever more complex simulated clients, who are portrayed by role players, usually other students. The last of these simulations, however, is a major capstone experience in which we attempt, to the degree possible, to present our students with challenging problems and "clients" who are portrayed as nearly as possible by people from the community who can properly portray the client. In the past, for example, ...One of our simulated cases involves a transsexual who seeks legal help to cope with employment discrimination..."

The Hampton Roads, Virginia Gender Expression Movement - GEM provides advocacy, resources and education about gender identity issues and social support to the Transgender, Gender Non-conforming and Gender Questioning members of the Hampton Roads, Virginia Transgender community.
