Anti Choice Can Equal Anti Transgender

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself

The hypocrisy is astounding. Anti-choice zealots are going after the very services that help prevent unwanted pregnancies. We need you to act right now to stop them.

This week, the anti-choice majority in the House could vote to eliminate all funding for Title X, the National Family Planning Program. This extraordinary step would jeopardize the health of millions of women, men and teens who rely on this program and are otherwise unable to afford basic healthcare services.

At its core, this is an attempt to defund Planned Parenthood, and Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) will also offer an amendment that would prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funding — not just Title X funding — because it performs abortions with its own non-federal dollars.

This is outrageous. We must stop any attempt that threatens comprehensive reproductive and family planning services. Tell your representative to vote NO on eliminating Title X funding.

Title X grantees are among the most experienced providers of comprehensive reproductive health care in their communities. They provide family planning services, including counseling, contraceptives, education, and preventive health screenings to women and men who would otherwise be unable to afford them.

Please stand with the millions of women and men who rely on these services. Let’s stop any attempt to freeze them out of the family planning help they urgently need.

This is the beginning of one of the most serious anti-choice attacks that has ever been mounted. With key votes due any moment, we need you to act quickly. Tell your member of Congress that if they eliminate Title X, they do so against the will of their constituents.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,

Laura W. Murphy
Director, ACLU Washington Legislative Office

P.S. Title X has a long history of helping low-income individuals. In 2009 alone, Title X providers performed 2.2 million Pap tests, 2.3 million breast exams, and over six million tests for sexually transmitted infections, including nearly one million HIV tests. Please help defend these services right now.
