The sad fact is that many of our Transgender, Bisexual, Lesbian and Gay youth take their lives because they lose hope. They are bullied in school. They are abused at home. They take to the mean streets in droves and become invisible.
Now, there appears to be some hope. The new task force will hopefully make more funds available so we can work at taking care of our TBLG youth and ourselves.
This could not have come at a better time. State and local funding for shelters and other services is becoming more and more scarce. Donations are drying up.
Although, the creation of this task force is very positive news, the TBLG communities must have protections against employment, housing, and health care discrimination put into place. The recent failure of Congress to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act again leaves us very little recourse when we are denied the basic necessities of life because of whom we are and / or trying to live our authentic lives.
