The title of the article caught my attention. No, not "save the ta-tas" but "topless Transgender men." I was already to jump up on my soapbox. “How dare the author call Transgender women, men”, I was thinking. Well, after reading the article I was wrong. These people were acting exactly like stereotypical, cisgender men and do not deserve to be called women or anything else unless they were making some sort of political statement that has not been made public. What in the world were they thinking? Save the ta-tas - Topless transgender men may affect LBGT rights June 7, 12:31 AMWilmington Civil Rights ExaminerAngel Clark Memorial Day weekend in a resort town tends to be busy and hectic, yet normally nothing local police cannot handle. This year, however, Rehoboth Beach police were confronted with a usual situation. It seems a group of transgender men were sunbathing topless on the beach near Queen Street. Two of the four transgender men were in a transitional stage of operations, seemingly having both male and female sex organs. Although the men were in the process of "becoming" women, they wanted to continue to have the same rights men enjoy while at the beach. Police and beach patrol asked the transgender men to cover their breasts and the men complied. They did, however, argue that they "are transgender and it is illegal to discriminate". Some states have laws against discrimination when regarding lesbian, bi-sexual, gay, and transgender (LBGT) rights and protests and rallies have been staged and heavily attended. It is said that any woman in these states would be allowed to go topless because when confronted she is able to say she is not a woman. One wonders, however, where the line is drawn. Rehoboth Beach is known for its LBGT lifestyle, including established gay bars and drag shows. When a man has the series of intense surgeries and hormone treatments to change his appearance to that of a woman, one has been led to believe that it is because that man associates himself with the opposite sex. In this writer's opinion the man is simply making his outside appearance match the way he has always felt on the inside. If this is indeed the case, one may be confused by the occurrences on Saturday, May 29th 2010, in Rehoboth. These men, with female breasts, chose to continue to use the rights enjoyed by men. When staging rallies and protests in other states, the women who associate themselves with men take off their tops, obeying laws which apply to men while disobeying laws which apply to women. The men in Rehoboth Beach, although they had female sex organs, felt it was appropriate to act in accordance with society's views of men. One wonders why these men would go through the effort of changing their appearance to that of women simply to continue to act like men. |

When I originally read this article weeks ago it ate at me too. At first I was like, why is the author using the wrong pronoun but very quickly I absorbed his opinion as well. What were these people thinking? Yet we are not supposed to judge. This reminds me of a conversation I had with a t-girl about sex workers and how I totally disagree with what they do. She told me I was a "hypocrite" and I should not judge. I am sorry, but being trans does not give you the right to be morally deprived. I guess there is now a t-card that can be played and abused.
Are we friends on Facebook? If not and you would like, please send me a friend request and take a look at the commotion these idiots have caused. Supposedly, they are Trans Masculine but either way they have not been thinking beyond their imagined or real penises.
In solidarity,
De
In reading about this else where, it turns out it was trans guys at the beach, not trans women. They had top surgery and thus every right in the world to be topless at the beach. Although, even if they were trans women, I think they should also have every right to be topless. The breast-phobia of our society is silly.
Also, woah unchecked privilege. Trans sex workers aren't "morally deprived," they're just trying to do what we all do: make it to tomorrow as best we can.
De, they weren't doing anything wrong. Unless you consider living in a trans body in this world as "wrong." And what on earth does their genitalia have anything to do with this?
I have searched far and wide for information on this incident. After a dozen articles, it is split fifty / fifty as to whether these folks were Trans Masculine or not. All the article agreed, other people with children were offended (their problem - I could care less what anyone wears or not)and called the police. The people in question put on their tops before the police arrived.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with ANY person's body. The point is which you - LLLLL - already know, they used poor judgement going topless on a public beach and then drawing the Transgender "card" with the police.
If they were Trans Masculine and had undergone top surgery, I seriously doubt anyone would have complained because they would have been just another group of guys on the beach.
My objection to the entire incident has nothing to do with the human / Trans body. It has everything to do with their lack of common sense.
