Obama Scores Another Hit For Transgender, Bisexual, Lesbian and Gay Civil Rights

This is another step in the right direction for the Obama Administration. There still is left a considerable amount of work to done in Congress.

There can be only one Congressional battle at a time. First, health care legislation, next a replacement Supreme Court Justice and now let's hope for:
  • Employment Non Discrimination Act - ENDA
  • Student Non Discrimination Act - SNDA
  • The repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
  • Marriage Equality legislation

OBAMA AGENDA: SAME-SEX VISITATION

President Obama mandated Thursday that nearly all hospitals extend visitation rights to the partners of gay men and lesbians and respect patients' choices about who may make critical health-care decisions for them, perhaps the most significant step so far in his efforts to expand the rights of gay Americans, the Washington Post writes. The president directed the Department of Health and Human Services to prohibit discrimination in hospital visitation in a memo that was e-mailed to reporters Thursday night while he was at a fundraiser in Miami.

The New York Times: The rules will take time to draft and put in place, and so Mr. Obamas order will have no immediate effect. Even so, gay rights groups called it a major advance for the families of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender individuals.
