"Oppression is the worst form of human rights abuse, this can lead to "Suppression" , the suppression of ones own feelings can lead to Depression, Suicidal Ideation and Self Harm Tendencies:- OR even, being one of the estimated 30% more of Trans people who adds themselves to the suicide rate, in Europe alone", it has been stated that up to 78% of Transgender and Intersex people self-- harm themselves
WHY? –
There is NO evidence to suggest that Transgender, Intersex and other Gender Variant people are born with mental health issues than any other person.
It is proven fact that governments, perceived professionals in the health services and Primary Care Trusts, society and fundamentalists in the main cause more mental health issues within the Transgender, Intersex and Gender Variant communities by their stigma, discrimination, OUTRIGHT PREJUDICE, lack of knowledge and their misleading assumption that all Transgender and Intersex people have a mental health issue and treat them accordingly with it
When we say Transgender and Intersex we also appreciate this equally applies to other Gender Variant people
GID within the DSM and ICD at present is a human rights issue, and when we talk about human rights, it is what is right and not what Governments or others perceive it is for their benefit alone
Lack of knowledge is no excuse for Human Rights Abuse
We demand that ALL people have the right to self identify themselves within their gender and/or sexually
"Supporting the stance of Transgender Europe": --
After the sudden and extreme internationalization of the campaign, the trans Revised Transgender Europe demands: - Depath network decided that groups supporting the campaign only need to support the first and main demand "removal of gid" and that they can according to their social situation or local/national contexts add additional demands. That was what TGEU was doing. We support the first demand and added three additional ones.
So you are documented with the first demand and you can decide if, and which additional demand(s) you want.
The Steering Committee of TGEU has adopted three additional demands in relation to the campaign’s principal demand:
Principal demand: - - “The Removal of Gender Identity Disorder from the DSM and ICD.”
Additional demands are: - The creation of an alternative non-pathologizing category in the ICD 11, recognizing that our gender identities are not mental health disorders while still enabling hormonal and surgical medical assistance to be provided for those trans-people who seek such assistance.
- The funding of hormonal and surgical medical assistance for trans people by national health insurance.
- The creation of processes for changing legal name and gender without compulsory treatment or any form of diagnosis.

Insanity is, by and large, the inability of an individual to encompass and deal with reality in all of its various facets. Despite a continuing set of studies showing that being transgender is indeed a physical condition. It would seem that too many people are simply incapable of accepting it for what it is. I find it to be simply amazing that the only people that are having trouble with this concept are those who are either terrified that they may be thus afflicted or those who be fact of religious superstition still want to deny the world as it really is. These are people who cling to scripture as being literal and infallible, preferring black and white dichotomies that fail as they can not stand up to what is really happening.
Anyone who thinks that being transgender is a form of insanity is exhibiting a form of panic disorder and an inability to stand up to reality. Enjoy your flat world, with the universe revolving around the world, and the inability of bumble bees to fly. Just do not insist that others share your blindness and inability to think.

I guess that my thoughts are that these people do not see themselves as being villains. They feel it is their "moral obligation" to maintain their belief systems - even if their positions are stupid, arrogant, dismissive, barbaric, savage and genocidal in nature.
One does not go far by condemning the ignorant and paranoid. One can only hope to educate them. Failing the efforts to educate, we need to quietly work toward the remedy of their evil practices, showing them that the sun will not fail to rise simply because they are no longer granted the right to oppress differences in an arbitrary and deadly manner.
This is the same mindset in all regards
I actually do have a Psych Degree...a Masters in Behavioral Analysis. It is is in fact a mental illness/disorder. I understand...we are all trying to embrace differences and show how tolerant we are. However, by doing so, you are doing a great disservice to these people. They need therapy and in some instances medications. Not only am I a degreed professional a friend of mine had the disorder. His life was shambles...even when trying to change his sex. Once treated properly, he actually remained a he and was happy. It is not about pointing fingers or trying to label or not standing behind someone's decision. It is about questioning a decision that is not made in a clear mental state regardless of how they appear. I am sorry....Transgender (not gay, bi or lesbian)...TRANSGENDER IS a mental disorder.
being gay was once in the DSM as a 'mental illness' as well until it was taken out in the 1970's.
It's just a matter of time before it happens for trans people as well

It would seem that you are more of a Christian Fundamentalist than a psychologist as you are ignoring the 97% to 98% success rate that transitional medicine is accomplishing with defined standards of care, using known therapeutic agents and achieving expected results with one of the highest success rates known to modern medicine.
You are also ignoring several researches that have shown that transgender people have the brain development of their sexual identity prior to starting hormone replacement therapy. Even post hormonal therapy, the sexually specific areas of the brain, that are known to be sexually specific remain unchanged. It has been shown that sexual identity in an individual is set in stone by the end of the first trimester, post conception.
You also ignore the fact that the daily birth of thousands of sexually androgynous and sexually deviant children demonstrates that sexual deviation is rampant within the human genome. You are maintaining a false dichotomy that sex is indeed a binary, when nature daily shows that it is not. This is incontrovertible.
As far as your friend goes, I am happy for him - but he is the very rare exception, rather than the rule. However, do not be surprised if you find out someday that he has attempted or succeeded at suicide.
I think you need to close your books for a time and take a good look at what is really going on in the real world. You seem to be ignorant of too many facets of reality that mere behaviorism can in no way account for. I am also wondering why you are ignoring the fact that the American Psychological Association considers repairative therapies to be far more harmful than beneficial?
From another perspective, are you saying that those who cross dress and are cisgendered are in need of psychological care just because they find sexual satisfaction in cross dressing, yet are intelligent, functional people in all other respects with regard to reality? This would in fact be nothing more than religious tenets than anything having any basis as a psychological disorder
I see in you more of the religious than I do of the educated, scientific-minded. JMHO
@Ammo Girl - as transsexual women, the only mental illness I've had was depression caused by societal pressure to conform to a strict gender binary. Some may call it Gender Identity Disorder, but for me once I had the depression under control I was able to move on with my life as a women. The only way I found to control the depression was to start moving forward with transition. Under advisement from friends I did go to therapy to work through transition process. I have not completed my transition, but just knowing I'm at least moving forward has eased most of my issues.
I'm not sure if your friend was a transsexual or a cross dresser. But if he is a transsexual I would not be surprised if he comes to a point in his life where he feels he must transition or take some other drastic measures to end the pain of not being true to one's self. If he is truly happy then that's all we can ask, and I am happy for him.
It wasn't so very many years ago that being female was considered a mental disorder. Take a look at the root meaning of hysteria or read Freud trying to figure out women.
While there are clearly real mental illnesses, there is also the terrible tendency to think that anyone who is different from "me" is nuts. Professionals who look for pathologies usually find them.
