Equality California to Honor State Supreme Court Justice Moreno at San Francisco Equality Awards

What: Equality California will honor California Supreme Court Justice Carlos R. Moreno at its Equality Awards ceremony in San Francisco on February 13, 2010. Justice Moreno has courageously championed equal protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Californians during his eight-year tenure on the California Supreme Court. Last May, Justice Moreno cast the Court's only vote to overturn Proposition 8, which took away the freedom to marry from same-sex couples. Justice Moreno was also was the sole member of the Court to marry a same-sex couple before the passage of Prop 8.

Other honorees include PFLAG leaders Sam and Julia Thoron, vocal allies for LGBT equality.

When: Saturday, February 13 at 6 p.m.

Where: San Francisco City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place

The evening's festivities include a 6 p.m. reception followed by a silent auction, gourmet dinner and after party. Event proceeds benefit Equality California, the state's advocacy organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
