KATHMANDU, Sept 5: Georgina Beyer, the world´s first transsexual Member of Parliament (MP), arrived in Kathmandu on Friday on a goodwill visit at the invitation of Nepal´s first gay lawmaker Sunil Babu Pant. Beyer, 52, served as an MP for the Labor Party of New Zealand from November 1999 till February 2007. “New Zealand was a far more conservative country until laws were changed in the 1980s to accommodate homosexual rights,” said Beyer, at a program organized by the Blue Diamond Society on Saturday. Born as George Bertrand, Beyer underwent a sex change surgery in 1984 when she was 27 years old.
