 | | My community has always been a very diverse place.
I grew up with an openly gay dad, and with friends who fell everywhere on the spectrum of L, G, B and T. And playing Max, the first transgender character on the Showtime series The L Word, has given me an incredible gift: the opportunity to open people’s eyes to the discrimination and prejudice that our trans brothers and sisters face every day, from both within and outside the larger LGBT community.
When I first learned about the Task Force, I was really inspired. Here is an organization that doesn’t just pay lip service to words like “diversity” or “equality.” They live their values and principles and stick by them no matter what.
And the Task Force is one of the few organizations that will always fight for the “T” in LGBT. They won’t back down. They won’t compromise to get a bill passed that doesn’t include protections for trans folks. Their work is grassroots, uncompromising and indispensable — and they need our support.
That’s why I’m asking you to join me in supporting the Task Force with your gift of $25, $50, $100 or whatever you can afford. Every dollar counts, and your gift today is more important than ever.
Right now, the Task Force is fighting hard to get an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) passed in Congress and onto the president’s desk — and our financial support plays a big part in helping make this and so much more happen.
Because while they’re fighting for ENDA, they’ve also been persistently pushing for the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” They’ve been on the ground in California doing the hard and unglamorous work of changing people’s hearts and minds about marriage equality. And they’ve been pushing relentlessly for LGBT visibility in the census — visibility that would mean protections and much needed funding for a community that has never been accurately counted.
Those are just a few reasons why our support of The Task Force is so critical. Join me and make a donation today to help make sure that the Task Force can keep fighting for the LGBT community.
In solidarity,
Daniela Sea
P.S. The truth is that I trust the Task Force — more than anyone else out there — to represent and fight for me and the entire spectrum of people who make up our community. But I know they can’t do it without our collective help. Click here to make your donation today and thanks so much for your support. |
